Old Car City

In White, Georgia is a fabulous mecca for car enthusiasts: Old Car City. Acres and acres of wrecked classic cars in the woods, connected by walking trails. Thousands of cars (and pieces of them). I had planned to spend the day doing watercolor sketches, but it had rained all day the day before, and the woods were soggy and alive with mosquitos.

Each car in this auto graveyard had once been new, brought home by a proud owner, who attracted friends and neighbors to come and admire it. These cars were part of major life events. Important conversations took place inside them. They waited faithfully for their owners in driveways and parking lots, until they were traded in for something newer. With each passing owner, the cars lost a bit more of their polish, until they wound up here, their stories never to be told.
